Many of our abstract art series are created with the intention that the viewer may experience the artwork from multiple perspectives. Since a signature on the front would limit the works presentation to a single orientation, the artist chooses to sign to the back. Even on works intended to be viewed from just one orientation, the artist often prefers a minimalist approach to signature placement, using the back to avoid any distraction from the art image.
Many abstract artists intend their work to be viewed from one orientation only. But sometimes the question of which way to hang a piece can be open to interpretation.
At m+w, many of our art series are created by the artist to be experienced from multiple perspectives. Each orientation reveals its own statement and energy. You, the collector, are invited to engage in a creative dialog with the piece and choose the orientation you wish to experience and present in your space. Our specially designed wall mount system makes it easy to change the orientation anytime you like. For more details see “Engage and Interact” in the About section of our site.
To see if an artwork is one we created to be viewed from multiple perspectives, just scroll down on the artwork page and click on “Special Features”.
Not sure which orientation to choose? No worries, simply use the orientation of the artist signature on the back as a guide to start with.
Each artwork is signed and numbered by the artist. It is also accompanied by a set of documents which includes: Certificate of Authenticity, signed by the artist; Bill of Sale; Fine Art Care & Instructions. Keep the documents packet with your artwork or store it in a safe place.
No. A reproduction is a copy of an original unique artwork. A reproduction is not created in the same medium as the original and is not considered the artwork itself. Reproductions are often produced without the involvement of the original artist.
All m+w art are original works created by the artist, using an artistic practice which incorporates a variety of media to create images whose original finished expression is print. Each image is produced as a limited edition under the direct supervision of the artist, and is signed and numbered by the artist.
A limited edition is an artwork with a fixed number of prints. The size of the edition is set by the artist before it is made and can not be exceeded. Once the edition has sold out, no more will be printed. A limited edition run may include multiple sizes of an artwork, with a fixed number printed in each size — the edition includes all sizes of that artwork.
An open edition by contrast, is one where the number of prints that can be produced is unlimited. Open editions therefore are valued lower than limited editions.
A limited edition run does not include reproductions of the artwork in other mediums, for example home textiles, fashion accessories, stationery, etc.
Most of our artwork is offered in two or three different sizes. The limited edition is distributed across the range of sizes. Our editions are typically set as: 5 large, 15 medium, 25 small, plus a few reserved for custom sizes. Unless otherwise stated, our editions are limited to 50 in total across all sizes.
We offer multiple sizes of each artwork to help accommodate a more diverse range of space and budget requirements for collectors. Check the options available in the “size” selection bar for the artwork you like.
If you still don’t find a size that works for you, please contact us. We may be able to accommodate your request if our limited edition maximum has not been reached for that artwork. Please note, we only produce sizes appropriate for each artwork, as determined by the artist.
